Is your website losing enquiries?

A practical website checklist for small businesses in Southport and across the UK. Open your website on a phone and work through these checks as a first-time customer would.

1. Can visitors see what you do?

Read the first screen. Does it explain the service, who it helps and where you work? Give visitors one clear next step, such as requesting a quote or discussing a project.

2. Does your contact route work?

Send a clearly labelled test enquiry using an email address you control. Complete any security check, check the destination inbox and confirm the reply address works. A thank-you screen alone does not prove that an email arrived.

3. Is it comfortable on a phone?

Check that text is readable without zooming, buttons are easy to tap and the page does not scroll sideways. Open the menu and follow every main link. Try the contact form with the phone keyboard visible.

4. Can people find the right information?

Check service details, operating area, opening times where relevant and contact information. Remove expired offers. Open important links and make sure they lead to the intended page.

5. Can customers use it easily?

Use the keyboard to move through links and form fields. Look for visible focus indicators, descriptive labels and text with good contrast. Give meaningful images useful descriptions and explain form errors clearly.

6. Does it feel trustworthy?

Explain who runs the business, how enquiries are handled and what happens next. Use accurate examples of your work and describe demonstrations honestly. Ask someone unfamiliar with the business to tell you what they think you offer.

7. What should you fix first?

Start with anything preventing contact or booking, then improve mobile usability and unclear service information. Keep a record of the changes and real enquiries so you can compare results. These checks are a useful starting point, not a complete technical audit.
